The Cedar Shake and Shingle Bureau recommend cleaning your cedar roof every 3-5 years for maximum lifespan. Unless you have mold, moss, mildew or rot, then it should be cleaned it right away.
Factors that reduce the life of your cedar roof
You can identify a UV damaged roof by its grey appearance.
Removing UV-damaged wood from your cedar is a good idea, as it helps restore the cedar's appearance and protects the underlying wood from further damage.

Sealing wood is a bad idea as it doesn’t allow the wood to breath. It may lock out moisture but it also locks it in which can result in moisture damage.
While a Nano Coating is breathable and stronger offering more benefits with no draw backs. Lasts for 5-6 years
Leave in oils offer good protection but only last 1-2 years and as the oil seeps out it will discolour the cedar. -
